Burlington, Vermont: The nation’s smallest big city

Students often say that when it comes to Burlington, it was love at first sight. Burlington is one of America’s most beautiful and liveliest small cities (population: 40,000), and it charms with its proximity to Vermont’s idyllic countryside.

The city of Burlington and its surrounding areas have received international publicity as one of America’s most desirable places to live for its arts, healthy lifestyle, outdoor fun and safety. A sampling of accolades include ranking number 1 by CBS News/Gallup among the 10 Happiest Small Cities in America, National Geographic (), The New York Times (), Outside and Travel + Leisure magazines.

Here are a few of our favorite places in town to visit with our students:

  •  - We take students to performances, workshops, and classes here regularly through the school year.
  • - A walking mall with restaurants, coffee shops, independent bookstores, and lots of other places to shop.
  •  &  - The Echo Center offers educational programs and internships for students, while Waterfront Park is a beautiful place to enjoy the beauty of Lake Champlain.
  • - Home to many of the farms that supply our food.
  •  - Classes and galleries for artists of all ages.
